The Magic of Vitamin L (ove)

In today’s time and age, I often wonder if we truly take a moment to stop and appreciate our loved ones. Be it family, friends, a partner, colleagues, and new acquaintances. Are we fully present when spending time with them? Are we clearly communicating? Are we being affectionate, loving, caring and attentive? Or are we becoming a breed of robots and machines that are connected 24/7 yet struggling with loneliness?

I recently recalled the old man that taught me how to drive one summer in Lebanon in his broken down car (and I mean broken down in all sense, the no doors kinda car). He would pick me up every morning with a huge smile on his face but one particular day he came grumpy and was yelling at me for giving him heart attack(s) with my non-skilled driving (I am sure those that have been in a car with me are nodding their heads in agreement, I see you 🙂 So nonchalantly, to take the attention off of me, I asked him what was wrong.

His reply gave me goose bumps and up until today it still applies. “Every morning I begin my day with my beautiful wife. We make two labneh sandwiches with Nescafe (a renowned brand name that now means ‘coffee’ in the Arab world) and we stroll to the beach where we spend at least 45 minutes together before our busy day begins. This hour of the day makes everyday a happy day but today she wasn’t feeling well.” I, of course, teared up.

This man with very little luxuries finds himself the richest of all as he is blessed with Vitamin L (ove). His daily dose of love is all he needs to be happy.

Moral lesson of the day: Savor the moments with your loved ones, count your blessings and appreciate all those you cross paths with!
